🎧 Listening & Pronunciation — Good pronunciation is essential for clear communication. This lesson covers the most important sounds in French, including nasal vowels (an, in, on, un), the French R, the U sound, and more. Listen carefully to each sound and practice repeating the words and sentences.

🔊 Click the Listen button next to each word or sound to hear the pronunciation using Text-to-Speech.

💡 Tip: Repeat each word out loud at least 3 times. Record yourself and compare with the audio.

👃 Nasal Vowels

Nasal vowels are one of the most distinctive features of French. They are pronounced through the nose. The letters n and m after a vowel indicate nasality.

💡 Tip: To practice nasal vowels, try to say the vowel while blocking the air from leaving your mouth so it comes out through your nose. Cover your nose while practicing to test the difference!
/ɑ̃/
en, enfant, dans
Nasal A — like "an" (through the nose)
ناک سے آ — جیسے "آن"
/ɛ̃/
in, vin, matin
Nasal I — like "in" (through the nose)
ناک سے ای — جیسے "ان"

Nasal U — like "un" (through the nose)

🗣️ The French "R"

The French "R" is pronounced in the throat (uvular trill or fricative). It can be challenging for English speakers.

💡 Tip: To make the French "R", try to gargle lightly at the back of your throat. The sound comes from the uvula (the small dangling tissue at the back of your throat). It sounds a bit like a gentle "kh" sound.

🗣️ The French "U"

The French "U" is a vowel that does not exist in English. It is pronounced with rounded lips like the "ee" sound.

💡 Tip: To make the French "U", say "ee" (like in "see") but round your lips as if you were saying "oo" (like in "soon"). The sound should come from the front of your mouth with rounded lips.

🎵 Sentence Stress and Intonation
