📚 Understanding Noun Genders & Plurals — In Arabic, every noun is either masculine (مذكر) or feminine (مؤنث). The gender of a noun affects adjectives, verbs, and pronouns. Additionally, Arabic has two types of plurals: Sound Plurals (جمع سالم) which follow regular patterns, and Broken Plurals (جمع تكسير) which change the internal structure of the word.

🔊 Click the Listen button next to each example to hear the pronunciation using Text-to-Speech.

💡 Key Rule: Most feminine nouns end with the letter ة (ta marbuta), but there are exceptions. For plurals, sound plurals add suffixes, while broken plurals change the word's internal pattern entirely.

🎯 Noun Genders: Masculine & Feminine

Every Arabic noun has a gender. Masculine nouns are often unmarked, while feminine nouns typically end with ة (ta marbuta) or اء (alif mamduda).

# Gender Arabic (Singular) Pronunciation (English) تلفظ (Urdu) Meaning Audio
1 Masculine كتاب Kitab كتاب Book
2 Masculine بيت Bayt بيت House
3 Masculine رجل Rajul رجل Man
4 Feminine مدرسة Madrasah مدرسة School
5 Feminine سيارة Sayyarah سيارة Car
6 Feminine قطة Qittah قطة Cat
7 Feminine شمس Shams شمس Sun
8 Feminine أرض Ard أرض Earth

📌 Note: Feminine nouns typically end with ة (ta marbuta), but some feminine nouns don't have this ending (e.g., شمس, أرض). Masculine nouns usually don't have a special ending.

📊 Sound Plurals (جمع سالم)

Sound plurals are formed by adding regular suffixes to the singular noun. There are two types: Masculine Sound Plural (جمع المذكر السالم) and Feminine Sound Plural (جمع المؤنث السالم).

# Type Singular Plural Pronunciation تلفظ (Urdu) Meaning Audio
1 Masculine مسلم مسلمون Muslimun مسلمون Muslims

4 Feminine مسلمة مسلمات Muslimat مسلمات Muslim women
5 Feminine مدرسة مدرسات Mudarrisat مدرسات Teachers (female)
6 Feminine سيارة سيارات Sayyarat سيارات Cars

📌 Note: Masculine sound plurals add ون (-un) or ين (-in). Feminine sound plurals add ات (-at). These are regular patterns.

🔄 Broken Plurals (جمع تكسير)

Broken plurals change the internal structure of the word (vowel pattern) rather than just adding a suffix. These are irregular and must be memorized.
